After finally getting home and trying to take a nap, I sent a text to my friend Shanna [who was also attending] to let her know I was going.

The show was a collaboration between Ben Gibbard and Jay Farrar:  One Fast Move Or I’m Gone.  Here’s some info from the website:

Jack Kerouac’s novel Big Sur was the lyrical compass for this compelling documentary soundtrack composed by celebrated recording artist Jay Farrar (Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo) and performed together with Benjamin Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service). The hauntingly intimate lyrics were taken directly from the pages of Kerouac’s Big Sur, and melded into a series of acoustic melodies over the course of three days.

They were playing at the Varsity Theater.  If you haven’t been there, find an excuse to go.  It’s a phenomenal venue.  PLUS, they’ve been putting a lot of work into the place.  I can’t wait to see it when it’s done.  The show was amazing.  It was one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time.  Watching Ben play and sing was very inspiring.  I really want to start writing more music.  I play my guitar a lot.  Ben is a major influence with my current style.  I’m thinking about buying the book.
